So the kids came back and we have been enjoying them as well as Nani being here, but then Tuesday night I started feeling some pretty yucky pains in my stomach. I have had stomach issues before but they have usually gone away after a day or so. I figured I would go to bed but when I woke up on Wed morning it was worse, but I had to make my way to class...so off I went but decided to head to urgent care afterwards. By this point I really was miserable, the doc could barely palpate on my abdomen before I about jumped off the table! She knew it was pretty serious, so I had some tests, which included blood work, UA, Xray - but everything showed I was fine, constipated but fine. My doc didn't think I would be in that much pain if that was it, so off I went to the hospital for a CT scan, thankfully Nick was able to meet me at the doc and my mom was here to help with the kids! I had to drink the oh so yummy crystal light and then wait one hour. After my CT I was not allowed to leave, the doc wanted to make sure she didn't need me to stay for admittance, pretty scary stuff!!! I got the call and I didn't need to stay but she did tell me I have Diverticulitis....I know what this is but never thought I would have had it.
Diverticulitis happens when pouches form in the wall of the colon or basically any part of the intestines. These pouches become inflamed or infected and can be VERY VERY painful!
So basically I have to watch my diet and start eating a higher fiber diet. I always thought I was being pretty conscious about this but apparently I was wrong! So my word of advice to everyone....make sure you eat your fiber!!!! I would hate for anyone else to be in the pain that I was in....thanks Mom and Nick for taking such good care of me :)
