So tonight in class we had to learn new skills and check off on ones we learned yesterday....the checking off was easy! And then we learned about collecting sterile samples, sputum (phlem) and stool - I know you are all so excited to hear that! And then learn about colostomy bags! Our teacher talked about them first and then we watched her practice on a maniquin and boy did that bring back memories! It was so strange standing there staring into a box of colostomy supplies, and just remembering everything we went through with Jaya! Those are days that I will never forget, even if I wanted to I am sure I couldn't, not that they were horrible, just so hard at times! I think back to her little belly and how I could never rub it, or having to hold her down to change her bag....always carrying around zip lock bags to empty her bag into or making sure that she always had a one piece on so that her bad wouldn't hang out! I think about where we were then and where we are now and it is just amazing to me! She is such a trooper and doing so well with everything - even showing off her scars to her new friends :) I remember, meeting the ostomy team and them trying to explain how to change her bag, I was petrified and so worried I was not going to be able to do it...worried I was going to put it on wrong, or hurt her. I even remember thinking what are people going to think when they see this, and of course when something like that happens you always ask "why"!
But we got through it and now she is an amazing, strong, brave and sometimes mouthy :) little girl and boy do we love her!!!!
